Hey everyone! So it's been about a month since our last show with Tyler and LOTS has been happening behind the scenes. So let's get straight into the updates!
-Our search for a replacement guitarist has been going great, we've had some great auditions thus far but we will not stop until we find someone as close to perfect for the group as we can. Once a guitarist is chosen though we will be back in gear in no time at all.
-You may have noticed some updates to our contact sections of our sites...we now have professional management by a great new company called The Wink Winks (www.thewinkwinks.com) and a lawyer as well. We are very excited about these new relationships as they will open tons of new doors for the group. I don't want to jump the gun or anything but you should probably buy all our old CD's while you can because they'll be collector's items very soon! Just kidding, save your money for the new stuff we release. Speaking of which...
-We have finished rough demos for 9 new songs. These demos are really rough and we're not too comfortable with putting them out for you all to hear because they are just not up to par sound quality wise. The songs themselves though are amazing, I know I say this every time but they are the best songs we've ever done. Stupid cliche statements. Anyway, in case you are curious the songs are called: Introversatile, California Doll, Get Your Gun, Voyeurism, Lights Out, Alive, You Think We're In Love?, Pleased To Meet You, and The Letter. More on what will be happening with these new songs later, sit tight!
-At Tyler's last show there was a lot of documentary footage taken which is being assembled into a short little video highlighting the nite. It's being worked on as we speak so hopefully that'll be around soon, keep an eye out for an announcement in the next few weeks.
That's about it for now, we hope you all are as excited as we are for summer to get here and for doublethink to be back in full swing. We'll be on the road and in your ears before you know it.

Hey guys! I would just like to personally thank everyone who came out on Friday for my final show. It was quite possibly the greatest moment in my life. I felt so honored to see all of you there in support of me and the band. It definetly brought a tear to my eye. The memories that I have from playing in the group are priceless, and I will remember them forever. I will always cherish those memories and all the people who have affected my life. Thank you thank you thank you! I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for the band! I hope to see you all at shows in the future. Once again, thank you for everything...you all are all my friends so please keep in touch!
rock on and live forever!

So, in the past month a ton of stuff has happened in the doublethink world. In this journal entry I'll try and sum up most of it, but there will be even more big announcements to be made after this one. So stay tuned.
First off, it is with a heavy heart that we announce that Tyler is exiting the group. Tyler told us that his life goals have changed and he would like to pursue being some kind of teacher. Becoming a teacher involves lots of school, and lots of school means that being in a busy band like doublethink is not really an option. Tyler and I have been playing music together since we were 15 years old, so this is a decade long partnership that's come to an end. It is bittersweet though, because unlike past members of the group who have exited Tyler is leaving only for positive reasons and has taken a very responsible and very helpful route out. I'll explain more on that later. In the next few days Tyler will post a message to everyone going into more detail about his decision, so be on the lookout for that.
On the bright side of things Tyler is playing his last show with doublethink on April 4th at The Space in Hamden, CT. April 5th is Tyler's 26th birthday, so the show was already going to be special, but now with Tyler exiting it has become probably the most important and special show we will have played up to that point. To make it a truly amazing nite we are going to be doing something a little different: we are going to be playing at least one track from all our commercially released CD's including Joy Machine, the doublethink EP ("Paroxysm", "Ghost Town", etc.), Feeler, and of course, Creating The Creator. We will also be playing at least one brand new song that has never been heard before by anyone. What songs we play from each disc will be a surprise, but this will be a great chance for all doublethink fans from all doublethink eras and all doublethink line-ups to come and have a great time. The setlist is being hand picked by Tyler so it would mean a lot to him, and of course to all of us, if as many friends could make it out to this show as possible. Mark your calendars, you're not going to want to hear about this show after the fact!
So, with all that said, I'll answer the question on your mind now: is doublethink going to continue? Well like I said earlier, Tyler is taking things very seriously and trying to help as much as he can to make this a very smooth transition into the next stage of the group. This is not even close to being the end of doublethink, it is more like chapter one is beng closed and chapter two is being opened. We are recording all the brand new songs that Tyler has written with the group since sessions for Creating The Creator wrapped to be held as demos. When a replacement guitarist is found those demos will be used along with whatever new material we come up with to make our next release. We haven't really planned that far ahead yet but things will get rolling pretty quickly once Tyler is replaced, as future annoncements will clarify.
On that topic, replacing Tyler is no easy task. A lot of people will assume that because Tyler is rather stoic on stage and a little more reserved than the rest of the band (most notably me) that he is not really integral to the group, but nothing could be further from the truth. Tyler's ideas, guitar parts, and yes, even his stage presence, have been a huge part of the development of the group and his shoes will not be easy to fill. That being said, if you or anyone you know would be interested in trying to be the next Tyler Seely, send us an e-mail at doublethinkonline@hotmail.com. Please only email us if you are absolutely serious about being in a band full time, have pro gear, your own transportation, a source of income, and live relatively near the shoreline area of CT. Thanks.
For right now the most important thing on my, Jeff's, and Johnny's minds is the show on April 4th. We really want to send Tyler off with a huge bang and we want as many of our loving friends to be there as possible. So be sure and tell work, your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your mom, your dog, whatever, that you are unavailable to do anything but go to The Space on April 4th, because you're NOT going to miss this show!
Be on the lookout for more annoncements involving our demos, the "Get More" video, the guitarist search, and the general future of doublethink. This is a very exciting time!

The phone is ringin'...oh my god.
So, we got some news here for you that you will enjoy. First off, this coming week (February 11th through February 15th) we wil be the featured Homegrown artist on The Rock WCCC 106.9 FM. Every day that week at 10:45 PM the legendary independent radio station will be playing songs from Creating The Creator and talking about all things doublethink. Starting Tuesday nite there will be an interview with yours truly being aired as well. So stay up past curfew and listen in to WCCC...every nite! If you don't live in the CT area you can listen online by visiting their website WCCC.com. Even if you don't listen in, send an e-mail to WCCC thanking them for being the only radio station that fully supports unsigned music like doubethink.
We've got some great shows in the works and a week-and-half long tour that's developing for early April; The Space show we have on the books is going to be the tour launch pad so we'll need people to come out and send us off. We're back at our favorite venue The Sad Cafe at the end of this month and we'll be at our favorite NYC venue The Trash Bar in March. March is going to be slow for shows so get to see us in February or else you'll have to wait a while to see us again. We're working in our new song "California Doll" into our sets so you'll get to hear something new, and we may be working in an old song or two into our set at The Space...you'll just have to wait and see.
Speaking of new songs we have 7 completed tunes that we're busy rehearsing the kinks out of right now. Two of them are still in need of vocals and names, but the other five are totally done: "California Doll", "Voyeurism", "Lights Out", "Introversatile", and "Get Your Gun". Since our show load is going to be very light in March I would suspect we'll be in the double-digits of new songs by the end of that month. We're going to hopefully start demo-ing them very soon and maybe posting some of the sketches online for feedback and stuff, as always check back here often to see what's going on with that.
Well I think that's everything that needs to be reported. What's that you say? Oh, the video! Right. The long-awaited video for "Get More" is in the very final stages of development. The band and I have all seen a rough cut of the video and it looks super awesome. The editing process is done and it's now being touched up by an effects wizard in an ancient tomb outside of Greece. He's going to cast a spell and make the reds redder, the blues bluer, and our faces prettier. Then it will be carried back to us by his flying muskrat (Philip) where he will train us in the art of burning DVD's. So, it's only a matter of a visit from Philip The Flying Muskrat before you all get to see how awesome our video is. The wait is only a little longer, sit tight!
See you guys later, send us some e-mails and make us happy.

Hello everyone. How is everyone doing? We don't receive nearly as much "Hey, just thought I'd e-mail you and tell you how I'm doing" e-mails as we would like, so if you're reading this, drop us a line just to say what's up. We want to know!
I'm assuming that since you're reading this you are wondering how WE are doing. Things are very productive in the doublethink world right now. We've played and will be playing a whole bunch of shows this month with a few big ones going down next month as well, most notably our show opening for BoyHitsCar at the Webster Theatre. Tyler is especially excited for that one. If you want to go to that show, be sure and e-mail us or send us a MySpace message to get your tickets, because you can get them from us for WAY cheaper than you can get them anywhere else. We also have a return engagement show at The Sad Cafe in New Hampshire after our overwhelmingly positive response we got there last time. Hopefully we'll see all the friends we made in September at this new show in November!
We do have some cool news: we are definitely, absolutely, positively going to be making a full-on rock and roll music video for "Get More". I don't want to go into too many details about it because they aren't solid yet, and besides suspense is totally fun. We may need extras for the shoot, so keep an eye on your e-mail boxes and your MySpace bulletins for any announcements we make if you want to be remembered forever as "that person in that video by that band with the dude in it".
In other behind-the-scenes news, we've started writing some new material, the first doublethink material written since we finished Creating The Creator. So far we have re-vamped a song written right before we started recording called "Lights Out", completed a totally new song called "California Doll", and written the music for a new as-yet-untitled tune. We also have COMPLETELY re-vamped an older doublethink song (seriously, the only way you'll recognize the song is when I start singing the words) that will be worked into our live sets in the near future, maybe even at our show at The Arts Barn next week...
I would say that I have about 25 song ideas demoed right now that are good, and probably about 50 total (the other 25 are not-so-good). That means that it is not out of the question that we could be recording new songs as early as the beginning of 2008. Right now the focus is still on Creating The Creator but releasing songs online or maybe even a quick EP is totally feasible. As always, we'll keep you posted.
We also haven't heard from enough people on what they think of Creating The Creator. We've gotten a lot of great feedback from people all over, but not enough! If you've heard it, let us know what you think. And if you haven't, all you have to do is go to our website (if you're not already there) and give it a listen, it's streaming right now for free at doublethinkonline.com.
Hopefully we'll be doing a new silly video for our YouTube Page in the near future, but with the video for "Get More" coming up it may have to wait until we're done shooting that. Rest assured that our future silly videos are gonna be out-of-control. I can already hear Dan telling us, "Guys, you can't put that online. Seriously. You guys are fucking freaks."
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well. E-mail us and tell us what's up!

The past few weeks have been a busy few weeks. We've been getting everything set up and ready before our shows started coming up. Practices started becoming more focused on playing certain songs for particular sets and making sure we got through all the songs in enough time. Aside from trying to get as much taken care of in our personal lives before the shows hit we also had other things that came up that needed urgent attention. First off, the van we use to cart all our equipment around (including ourselves) was in need of some work. Tyler had some good reliable folks close to the band help us out with that. Tyler even got his hands pretty dirty as well working on the van. We also learned that our beloved practice space would be no more. Due to the fact the property is being sold, we have only a short time left there before we have to leave. scott has been looking high and low for new places and we've got some interesting leads. We may be moving to Clinton, but nothing is set in stone yet.

The last few weeks have been some very busy times. I started meeting with scott to go over the basics of all the songs on the album. Just me, him, a couple basses, and the drum tracks. We would meet up, go over a couple songs, go get a bite to eat over some conversation and then get back to work. Spending 4 or 5 hours at a time each day going over these songs and talking I got to know scott alot better. I got together with Jeff and Tyler as well to get a better feel for their personalities after full band practices began. Jeff and I got together to hang out and jam. Tyler accompanied me on the day I bought my new equipment for the band which was a great deal of help, he really knows his stuff when it comes to picking out the right tools for the job.
Imbetween the doublethink boot camp with scott and the full band practices we had a photoshoot with a really cool photographer named Andrew Wallach. The shoot was fun and didnt take long. We got a lot of great pictures out of it and also got to hear about what Andrew has been working on. A book called "The Art of Making Music" which seems is a bit of a documentary of local musicians. Very interesting stuff, and a very interesting person worth checking out.
This week is a bit more laid back it would seem but in reality things keep building. Jeff is away on vacation which means there were no practices this week, and I think we've all been kinda scratching our heads wondering what we should do with ourselves. Seeing the other members of the group on such a constant basis becomes routine and when that stops for a week or so it feels like something is missing. Even while we have been having the week to ourselves things havent stopped progressing. We've got a whole slew of new shows added to our calender and I doubt there's any end in sight. We've now got three out of state shows and two radio interviews before our CD release show at The Space.
August 25th will be our first venture out with this line-up. In New York of all places. Can't wait to get things rolling.

Since my first day with the group I've felt like we're on a steam-roller with nitrous. As soon as something comes up we're ready to take it on and get it done. Doublethink is an entirely diffrent type of machine than what I'm used to working with. Since the interviews and auditions to get into the band, I've only grown to like it more and more each day it seems. I was originally only given a handful of songs to listen to and learn. It was music I could really get into and I became a bigger fan of the band as I was learning the material. After having my first meeting with the band themselves, Dan, and Jess, they gave me a copy of the completed album. That night on the ride home back to New Haven is when I got to first hear it. I was already excited for the fact I was accepted into the group, and then even more so when I actually listened through the album. Right from the get go as the first song hit me my jaw dropped and all I could think was "Wow, it just keeps getting better!" It's been about a little over a month now and things certainly have only been getting better. Practices are getting smoothed out, shows are being booked, a new website is up, and a photoshoot that was done just last week are just a few things that have been going on. There really isn't ever a dull moment it seems, and it looks like it's only going to become more and more hectic as time goes on. We want nothing more than to get this show back up to speed. With still a few weeks ahead of us before our first show I can only imagine how busy we'll be in preparation for the comeback. I know it will be a lot, I know it wont be easy, I know it will consume us, and I know it will exhaust us. Through it all though, I know this is exactly what we want and that we wont stop till our last breaths.
